The “Mini” Report from the Ft. Lauderdale Branch PEN Women
Our main raison d’etre is fund raising for the three
Achievement Award Scholarships we grant each year in the
categories of Art, Letters and Music.
We raise funds though luncheons held each month. The themes at
these luncheons vary each month, such as art speakers and demos,
musical presentation, poetry reading, book reviews, local
history talks with slides, fun talks on members’ horoscope
comparisons with famous people. We even raise money each year at
our Christmas party luncheon which is usually held at a member’s
home.
We also raise funds with our Art shows and exhibits and art
workshops and jewelry making.
Last year, branch members celebrated our first 50 years with NLAPW
by publishing a collaborative book of poems and reproductions of
pictures and photographs titled Creative Expressions.
It is still available for $13 which covers postage and
handling. This book may be ordered from the Fort Lauderdale
Branch, P.O. Box 9583 Fort Lauderdale, FL 33310
Our newsletter keeps our members and friends informed, maintaining
their interest when they cannot attend meetings
Although we spend much time raising money, we also take trips to
local museums and galleries just for the sheer enjoyment of it.
Cordially,
Lillian H. Ragland, President
Fort Lauderdale Branch, NLAPW
